Ossining, NY – On Wednesday, April 26 at 10 am, the Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) will formally open and dedicate its new headquarters and performance space at 23 Water Street with a ribbon-cutting ceremony officiated by WCT Executive Director Alan Lutwin together with local officials including County Legislator Catherine Borgia, Ossining Town Supervisor Dana Levenberg and Ossining Village Mayor Victoria Gearity. The space is located across the street from the Ossining train station and close to the downtown area.
The event will inaugurate the new performance space as a venue that will feature WCT mainstage theater productions and readings as well as performing artists of varied genres in music, dance and the spoken word throughout the lower Hudson Valley. The morning ceremony is open to the public. Refreshments will be offered following the event which will conclude by 11 am.
Lutwin notes, “Having a new venue in Westchester for theater, music, dance and much more as an alternative to Manhattan is a major addition to the community at large. It enriches downtown Ossining which is experiencing a great revitalization, the river towns, the entire county as well as neighboring counties of Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess. We expect people to reverse commute from Manhattan as well. It’s an easy drive with ample parking evenings and weekends and the close proximity to the train station makes it a convenient trip from points north and south.”
He notes too that the space, a fully renovated and gutted vacant building that once housed a cabinet-making factory, was designed as a ‘black box’ venue to maximize its versatility. “One can set up chairs and a stage for theater, re-align chairs for in-the-round seating, or bring in tables to create a cabaret setting. The possibilities are endless,” he says. The ribbon-cutting opening precedes a weekend benefit concert on Saturday, April 29 when Ossining resident, jazz and folk legend KJ Denhert and her duo will perform two concert sets at 8:00 and 10:00pm. It follows a highly successful run of WCT’s mainstage production, Lot’s Wife, which played to largely sold-out audiences throughout March in the new performance space.
Lutwin noted that WCT has already booked varied performing arts events over the next few months and is available for future dates.
