The high energy celebration of creativity will feature a performance by WCT’s Improv 102: Foundations of Improvisation class taught by Tamra Malaga of The Josh and Tamra Show, improv with puppets, performers and instructors. Students will put their skills to the test, spinning audience suggestions into hilarious, unscripted long-form improv scenes and unforgettable characters (www.wctheater.org/classes-and-workshops). The work of three professional improv comedy groups from Westchester and New York City, The Black Coalition, The Unthinkables and Cosmic Improv, will follow.
The Josh and Tamra Show, pioneers of puppet improv, have toured the U.S. and beyond for 27 years. Born at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City in 1999, their show combines puppetry with long-form improvisation. Starring seasoned long-form improvisers Josh Cohen, a Jim Henson Muppeteer and Tamra Malaga, a character actress, each performance begins with an audience suggestion and unfolds into a hilarious, one-of-a-kind, adventure – puppets included! (May contain adult language and situations.)
The Unthinkables is a dynamic team of coaches representing the youth improv and sketch training company Unthinkable Comedy. The group leads interactive workshops and programs for kids throughout Westchester and the tri-state area. By blending play, creative writing, collaboration, and foundational human skills, they empower the next generation to think outside the box, embrace mistakes, and find their unique comedic voices. www.unthinkablecomedy.com
The Black Coalition: The all BIPOC improv team says that they’ve “been put on this planet to bring laughs, get real, and take names!”
Cosmic Improv: Veteran improviser Michael Bird is the creator of the solo show Cosmic Improv, a fully improvised performance that weaves audience choices into the show in real-time, creating the ultimate cosmic unity of play. He performs weekly in Manhattan and has toured the show nationally and abroad. • www.CosmicImprov.Com
