Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) and RJD Productions present the first in a new series of WCT Opening Night programs, The Last Flapper, a one-woman show written by William Luce, starring Tina D’Amato and directed by R. J. D’Amato (both of Yonkers, NY). The play reveals the true story behind the myths surrounding Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of The Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald. Luce is known for his compelling one-person plays, notably the much-acclaimed and awarded The Belle of Amherst about Emily Dickinson starring celebrated actress Julie Harris.

The New York Times wrote of The Last Flapper, “A cry of the heart that relentlessly delivers the truth.”

Culled from Zelda’s own letters and stories, Luce has created a one-woman tour de force in The Last Flapper that presents the definitive portrait of Mrs. F. Scott Fitzgerald:  the glamorous, fun-loving and tragic Zelda.  Luce reveals the contradictions and mysteries of an extraordinary woman while fashioning a moving yet witty play. Her own words demonstrate that the real Zelda is altogether different from the sentimental stereotype of the legend and show how tarnished F. Scott's pedestal may be.

Set in an insane asylum on the last day of Zelda's life, the play unfolds as a hypnotic session.  She tells of her innocent rebellion as a Southern belle, of her destructive marriage, and of her mental disintegration.  Audiences will long remember the enlightening encounter with a woman shaded by her husband's shadow.
